The War of Art: Our Record With Rick Rubin

· The Band

Of all our records, The War of Art is the one many people meet us through. Here's how it came together.

Who produced it?

Rick Rubin. System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian recommended us to him, and Rubin produced the record with Chad Hanks and Cameron Heacock.

Where was it made?

The Mansion in Laurel Canyon. That's where The War of Art was recorded, and American Recordings released it on 28 August 2001.

What was the single?

"Just So You Know." It came out in 2002 and is still the song many people play first when they hear our name.

What is the sound?

Samples, keyboards and heavy riffs, all at once. Our music is filed under industrial metal, alternative metal and nu metal, and on this record the samples and keyboards matter as much as the guitars.

Where does it show up on the merch?

The Crosshair Logo and the Star Logo put our name front and centre, the way it sits on the album's era of shows. If you found us through The War of Art, they're the simplest place to start.
